Peter Thiel Warns of Western Stagnation and Stresses AI Competitiveness
Billionaire Peter Thiel warns of Western economic stagnation, emphasizes the crucial role of AI amid competition with China, and contrasts US and European wealth creation.

Billionaire venture capitalist Peter Thiel warns that the West has fallen into technological and economic stagnation, largely affecting physical sectors of the economy rather than just software.
In an interview with Mathias Döpfner on MD MEETS, Thiel argued that this lack of growth fuels political extremism. While artificial intelligence could significantly boost growth, it carries severe risks. Nevertheless, Thiel opposes slowing down AI development, warning that continued stagnation is dangerous, especially amid technological competition with China.
Comparing the US and Europe, Thiel noted that American billionaires largely built their fortunes independently, whereas wealth in Germany is frequently inherited, reflecting Europe's struggle to foster global enterprises.
Thiel also cautioned against potential political shifts in the United States, suggesting a Democratic socialist win in 2028 could disrupt the nation's economic structure, noting upcoming congressional midterms will heavily influence the political landscape.
