Five Toddlers Wander Out of Petah Tikva Daycare After Gate Left Open
Five toddlers wandered out of a Petah Tikva daycare unattended after a back gate was left open during cleaning. A local resident's alertness prevented a major disaster.
A serious incident occurred on Sunday morning at a daycare center on Greenspan Street in the Neve Gan neighborhood of Petah Tikva, when five toddlers aged two to two and a half wandered out of the facility unattended after a back gate was left open. Three of the toddlers rode toy cars all the way to a nearby road, while two others reached a public playground and began playing on the equipment. Only the alertness of a local resident who noticed the children and called the police prevented a potential tragedy.
Investigation and Details of the Incident
According to a parent's testimony, the incident began when a mother arrived at the daycare and complained to the caregivers about the cleanliness of the premises. Following the complaint, the staff began cleaning, and at one point, only a single caregiver was left supervising 26 children. At that time, five of the toddlers managed to slip out through the back gate of the courtyard.
Three children took toy cars and traveled to the road on Greenspan Street, while two others headed to the adjacent playground. A neighbor who spotted the three toddlers near the road realized the danger and immediately contacted the authorities. Meanwhile, one of the caregivers noticed the missing toys, checked the courtyard, and discovered the open gate.
"Today five children left the daycare through the back gate leading to the playground and the road. The gate was open. Three children took toy cars and reached the road, while two others went to the playground," one parent recounted.
Official Response and Municipality Action
Following the event, police forces, security personnel from the Petah Tikva municipality, early childhood units, and the Ministry of Education arrived at the scene to investigate the circumstances and the conduct of the staff. The municipality views the incident with extreme gravity and has launched a joint investigation with the Ministry of Education.
Later in the day, a conference call was held with the parents to clarify the details, answer questions, and provide support. The incident raises severe questions regarding safety and supervision protocols at the daycare facility.
