Veteran South African sports broadcaster Owen Ndlovu was found dead on Wednesday, just hours after being kidnapped and robbed near Johannesburg. Police confirmed that Ndlovu, a former presenter for the public broadcaster SABC, was abducted on Tuesday while picking up his wife from a church in the Thokoza area.
According to Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, the incident occurred as Ndlovu arrived to collect his spouse. Three armed suspects approached the vehicle, pushed the woman aside, and forced her husband into the back seat. The perpetrators fled with the victim, and his Ford Raptor truck was later found abandoned in Walkerville, south of Johannesburg.
Investigation and Crime Crisis
Ndlovu's family described the loss as devastating and thanked residents and police for their assistance in the search. Authorities have launched a manhunt for the three suspects, casting a harsh spotlight once again on the alarming rates of violent crime in South Africa.
"Serious crimes continue to create fear in communities, and some are carried out by heavily armed and organized crime groups operating with planning and sophistication," stated acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia.

Ndlovu, 54, was a familiar figure to South African sports fans following his years as a commentator and producer at SABC. He was involved in radio coverage of the Premier Soccer League and later became an advocate for musicians' rights and royalty payments. Colleagues remembered him as a vibrant professional who brought immense energy and talent to sports broadcasting.
