Ortal Amar in a revealing interview: on relationships, raising Tav, and work alongside motherhood
Ortal Amar talks about the challenges of raising her son Tav: "I feel that lately I have neglected myself a bit," and the relationship with Itay despite the age gap: "These things, if you really love, it doesn't matter" - a personal interview.

She is used to being documented at almost every moment of her life, but at the launch event of the "Napoleon" cheese brand where the new cream cheese was launched, Ortal Amar feels completely at home. Between the luxurious atmosphere and the elaborate refreshments, she opens up in a sincere conversation about the home kitchen, the challenges of raising her son Tav, the close relationship with Itay, and the not-so-simple balance between a busy career and motherhood.
If you ask Ortal, her great love for the kitchen and cooking does not always get the proper stage on social media, mainly due to lack of time. "I cook all the time. I love to cook very much, I am good at it. I think that maybe I don't upload it enough to the network, so they don't know how much I love it, because I just don't have the energy. I kind of need to tick off the pots, and Tav comes back, and Itay eats a lot. Basically, we go through more than 5 kilos of rice in about two and a half weeks at home, that's the level. I love Moroccan stews."
Alongside the elaborate meals, Amar describes a healthy self-humor and does not hesitate to share a big blunder that happened in her kitchen. "I made a chocolate cake with salt! Instead of sugar! I made it just like that, in my own vibe, and then the babysitter Yuli came to babysit, ate it and told me 'Ortal, this is disgusting!'. And I'm like, 'Shit, it's salt! Shit'."
For working mothers, the summer vacation days bring with them not small challenges, and Amar admits that as Tav grows, the daily management requires more complex maneuvering. "As they grow, it gets more complicated. When he was little it was easier, there were summer camps, they would go. And now they have demands, claims 'this camp yes, this camp no'. Suddenly hours, they sleep until really late, suddenly at 12 at night they don't fall asleep. Not easy. I really, really admire people who have more than one child. I only have one child, I'm not allowed to cry, right? Fun, okay, vacation, but I just love my routine and this matter is busy."
Despite the tight schedule, she tries not to give up on herself and on fitness, even when the load is heavy. "I try. I feel that lately I have neglected sports and training a bit, so I'm on it. Even today I got up in the morning and trained. I'm okay, listen, I only have one child. I keep saying, one child and also 8 years old is already a big child. Think about what it's like for mothers who have more than one child, what a struggle. I always try not to give up on myself."
Today, an exciting professional and personal project is on the agenda: participation in the musical "Cinderella" alongside Rinat Gabay and her partner, Itay. The combination of work and a relationship turns out to be a connecting experience full of mutual support. "He helps me get dressed, he takes care of me, we take care of each other for food. We have feedback all the time from each other, it's an experience, it's the first time." And what about Tav while his parents are on stage? "Whatever works out. For example, if he wants to come with me to the show, he likes to go up for applause, for the bow."
Parenthood, especially under the cameras, has brought with it significant insights over the years. "I learned as a mother that it's not worth getting angry about anything, that you need to maintain mental calm all the time, that things pass. Sometimes we get angry about nonsense, it's one of the things I learned the most that you need to know how to let go." These insights were also prominent in her participation in the series "Mehubarim" ("Connected"), an exposure that was not always easy.
"There were complex struggles, yes, because suddenly things come out after a year. But I enjoyed every moment, I think it's an amazing format and I'm happy I took part in it, it's super-super high quality. 'Mehubarim' did me a favor, because suddenly they see the character that is really seen, they see me, which is actually not seen until now on social media."
On a personal level, the relationship with Itay is approaching a festive milestone of a year together. Despite the age gap between them and the raised eyebrows from the environment, the quiet and stability he brings to her life win everything. "He brings a lot of happiness, peace of mind... He brings a man home, really a real man that you can rest your head on. We already got used to the gap, at first it was strange, but after that you get used to it. Honestly, really these things if you really love it doesn't matter.
They will always raise an eyebrow in matters of a relationship that is supposedly famous, but I think that if you see in the test of time that people love and are together, then it doesn't matter. What captured me the most is that he has a heart of gold. That he is good to me, and he is good to my son, and he is a real man, and he is a man of the past. I love him."
One of the most important aspects for her in any relationship is the connection to her son Tav, and the way the two found a common language excites her every time anew. "It took time, like any child. It takes a moment, but in the end it happens, it's okay. He was used to only mom all the time, it's a natural process. They do a lot of boy things, and it excites me the most to see that there is someone who does good for my son. It's important for every mother who brings a man home, obviously. And I think Itay is doing a great job, he is also like a brother, it's easier for him." Tav himself is already showing prominent musical talent, but the proud mother has no intention of rushing: "He sings, what a handsome and cute and singer, I'm proud! I think it's genetic, it's uncontrollable. He just lives it, he loves it. But he's only 7, what song, are you crazy? Wait, meet him in another 10 years, interview him too."
