Brigadier General (Res.) Oren Solomon discussed the intelligence report compiled by Major Y., which examines the ties between Egypt and Hamas prior to the October 7 massacre. Solomon argued that the findings point to a deep failure in how the security establishment interpreted Egyptian intelligence behavior.

The Egyptian Intelligence Trap

Speaking in an interview with Shimon Riklin, Solomon addressed the internal military intelligence report written after October 7. The document reviews the relationship between intelligence agencies in Israel and Egypt, as well as Cairo's ties with Hamas.

Solomon explained that the report raises the possibility that Egypt was part of the strategic deception picture preceding the attacks, noting that Israel failed to recognize the true meaning of the cooperation between Egyptian intelligence and Hamas.

"They fell into the net," Solomon stated, emphasizing that Israel continued to rely on the Egyptian mediation channel while Hamas was actively preparing for war.

Senior Leadership and Intelligence Failures

Solomon pointed out that these diplomatic and security contacts were managed by the highest echelons of Israel's defense establishment, including former Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar, former IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi, and former Military Intelligence Directorate head Aharon Haliva.

Furthermore, Solomon criticized the internal military investigations for failing to thoroughly examine the nature of Israel's relationship and coordination with Egyptian intelligence ahead of the outbreak of the war.
