Three years after Hamas terrorists infiltrated the Gaza envelope communities and launched the October 7 massacre, Israeli flags were lowered to half-staff at 06:29 sharp on Monday at the President's Residence and the Knesset, marking the opening of the national memorial day for October 7.

President Isaac Herzog lowered the Israeli flag at the President's Residence courtyard as a sign of the shared national mourning of the State of Israel and its citizens, and in memory of the women, men, children, toddlers, elderly, civilians, and soldiers murdered and fallen on October 7 and during the Swords of Iron war.

The President's Residence stated that the memorial day is also dedicated to all those physically and mentally wounded who still carry the scars of October 7 and the war today.

Simultaneously, national flags at the Knesset plaza were lowered to half-staff in a ceremony attended by Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana. Wreaths were laid at the foot of the memorial for fallen soldiers and the monument for victims of hostilities, and a memorial candle was placed at the Knesset entrance to burn throughout the day.
