Oracle CTO Larry Ellison Predicts AI Will Eradicate Most Cancers Within a Decade
Oracle CTO Larry Ellison predicted at the Oracle AI World conference that artificial intelligence will eradicate most cancers within a decade, driven by advanced robotics and early diagnostics.

Larry Ellison, co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Oracle, has delivered a bold prediction at the Oracle AI World conference in Las Vegas, claiming that most forms of cancer will be eradicated within five to ten years. Speaking via video stream, Ellison argued that artificial intelligence and advanced medical technologies will transform oncology through early detection and global accessibility.
"The greatest gift that artificial intelligence will give the world is that most cancers will disappear within five years, and certainly within ten," Ellison stated. He added that these advanced treatments will not remain a privilege for the wealthy in New York or California, but will reach every person globally through widespread diagnostics and dramatic price reductions.
The Personal Motivation Behind the Vision
Ellison tied his ambitious vision to a personal tragedy: the death of his mother from cancer when he was a young university student. He shared that his family initially intended for him to become a doctor, and the trauma of her passing guided his lifelong career push to integrate enterprise cloud technology and database systems into the global healthcare sector.
Beyond software, Ellison painted a futuristic picture of robotic surgeons replacing human doctors in operating rooms with microscopic precision. He described robotic arms capable of operating on a beating heart between two ribs without the need for traditional heart-lung bypass machines, transforming complex cardiac and oncological procedures into standard, highly accurate practices.
Marketing Strategy or Medical Revolution?
Medical experts and oncologists remain skeptical, pointing out that cancer is not a single disease but hundreds of complex biological mechanisms. Analysts note that Ellison's grand declarations also serve as a powerful marketing tool for Oracle's cloud infrastructure and its $28 billion acquisition of medical records giant Cerner in 2022, as the company competes for hospital clients against major rivals like Epic.
Addressing economic concerns regarding artificial intelligence and automation, Ellison dismissed fears of permanent mass unemployment. He proposed a radical restructuring of the tax system, shifting from taxing human labor to taxing the economic value generated by robots, which could fund a universal high income for all citizens.
