Artificial intelligence giant OpenAI is closing in on a massive funding round that could value the company at over $1 trillion ahead of a potential initial public offering, according to a CNBC report. The San Francisco-based firm is raising up to $30 billion at a valuation of $1.25 trillion, excluding the new capital, according to sources familiar with the matter who spoke on condition of anonymity. The round is being led by investors from the United Arab Emirates alongside Coatue Management. OpenAI informed investors that it aims to finalize the fundraising by the end of next week, though the final size of the round remains fluid.

The capital raise is being framed as an opportunistic bridge toward an IPO, for which OpenAI has already filed confidentially. Chief Financial Officer Sarah Friar told employees that the company's public debut is slated for 2027 following previous timeline shifts. Concurrently with the new investment, OpenAI is negotiating a commercial deal to secure additional computing capacity from the United Arab Emirates, according to people with direct knowledge of the talks. The arrangement will bolster the company's infrastructure as it rapidly expands its generative AI operations.

This funding push unfolds amid turbulent conditions across technology markets, highlighted by growing scrutiny surrounding CoreWeave and broader macroeconomic questions regarding future financing costs amid fluctuating interest rates. Meanwhile, the anticipated public offering by Anthropic will serve as an additional litmus test for investor appetite across the artificial intelligence sector.
