The Democrats Candidate Omri Ronen Criticizes Gaza Film Collateral Damage
Omri Ronen, a candidate for "The Democrats" and former military commander, criticized the film "Collateral Damage" for its portrayal of IDF operations in the Gaza Strip, calling its depictions inaccurate.
Omri Ronen, a candidate for "The Democrats" party, addressed the Israeli film "Collateral Damage" and the public storm surrounding it during an interview on Galei Tzahal. During the interview, Ronen criticized how the film portrays IDF operations in the Gaza Strip, arguing that its depictions do not reflect the reality he witnessed during his military service.
Ronen stated, "It defames me and the soldiers of the IDF. I saw the reality in Gaza, the army did not conduct itself like that." According to him, his personal experience as a commander during the fighting in Gaza contradicts the film's portrayal of military activity.
The 34-year-old Ronen is a lawyer, social activist, and member of "The Democrats". He was previously a leader in the "Brothers in Arms" organization and a key activist in protests against the judicial overhaul, participating in demonstrations, speeches, and media interviews, including the American program "60 Minutes".
Alongside his public activism, Ronen has a distinguished military background, serving in the Maglan unit and graduating with honors from the IDF officers' course at Bahad 1 in 2014. He later served as a team commander during Operation Brother's Keeper, Operation Protective Edge, and the Iron Swords War.
The film "Collateral Damage", created by Yuval Abraham and Rachel Shor, won the jury prize at the Venice Film Festival. It features testimonies from Israeli soldiers and intelligence personnel regarding IDF conduct in the Gaza Strip, sparking widespread public debate in Israel and abroad.
