Europe's Oldest Man Vitantonio Lovallo Passes Away at Age 112 in Italy
Vitantonio Lovallo, Europe's oldest man, has passed away in Italy at the age of 112. The former farmer and WWII veteran worked in his vineyard until a very advanced age.
European media reported that Vitantonio Lovallo, the oldest man in Europe, passed away at the age of 112 in his hometown of Avigliano, southern Italy. The former farmer worked in his vineyard and tended sheep until a very advanced age.
Lovallo lived in a town of 10,000 residents. His wife passed away several years ago, and the couple had four children. During World War II, he fought at the front and, according to Italian media reports, was a prisoner of war in Germany between 1943 and 1945.
Even past the age of 100, the Italian man continued to work in his vineyard. According to a survey by the Gerontology Research Group, the oldest man in Europe is now Portuguese national Joaquim Varela, aged 111.
However, Varela ranks only 32nd on the list of Europe's oldest people, trailing behind 31 women. According to this ranking, the oldest woman in Europe, and indeed the entire world, is British national Ethel Caterham, aged 117.
