Three years after October 7, official data reveals 1,029 civilian deaths and over 87,000 victims of hostilities, with the state disbursing billions in compensation.

Three years after the October 7 massacre, Israel's Ministry of Defense and the National Insurance Institute have released comprehensive casualty figures from the ongoing war.
Civilian and Military Casualties
According to the National Insurance Institute, 778 civilians were murdered on October 7, with an additional 251 people killed in subsequent months, bringing the civilian death toll to 1,029. This figure excludes security forces and local defense squads. The total includes 63 children and teenagers under the age of 18.
Over the past three years, 87,286 individuals have been recognized as victims of hostilities. Of these, approximately 43,000 applied for disability recognition, with about 40,000 already approved. Psychological trauma accounted for 34,878 of the recognized cases, while physical injuries affected 3,171 individuals, and 2,355 sustained combined physical and psychological trauma.
The National Insurance Institute has transferred over 6 billion shekels to victims of October 7 and the war, including support for families of the fallen, victims of hostilities, and families of hostages.
State Support and Operations
Financial assistance extended beyond direct casualty compensation to include reserve duty compensation, evacuation grants, and economic relief for residents of the North and the South. Furthermore, more than 2 billion shekels were distributed in furlough payments to approximately 100,000 citizens during the "Am Kalavi" operation and nearly 200,000 citizens during the "Shaagat HaAryeh" operation.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defense's Families, Commemoration and Heritage Department expanded its services for bereaved families, deploying social workers and hundreds of emotional therapists. The military commemoration unit handled funerals across 282 cemeteries and military plots throughout Israel.
