Nvidia in Talks to Expand Investment in or Acquire Startup Reflection AI
Nvidia is reportedly in early talks to increase its investment in or fully acquire American AI startup Reflection AI, potentially exploring an acqui-hire arrangement to bypass heavy regulatory scrutiny.
Nvidia is in talks to increase its investment in the American startup Reflection AI or acquire it entirely, according to the Financial Times. The discussions are currently in an early stage, and the deal could take several forms, including an acqui-hire agreement where Nvidia would hire the workforce and license Reflection's technology rather than executing a full buyout.
Such a move could help avoid prolonged regulatory scrutiny. The Financial Times reports that an agreement could be finalized in the coming weeks, though nothing is certain. Nvidia is already a strategic investor in Reflection AI, having previously invested 800 million dollars in the startup.
Reflection was founded in 2024 by former DeepMind researchers Misha Laskin and Ioannis Antonoglou. The company develops tools for automated software development. On Monday, the firm launched its first open-weight model, Beam, aiming to compete with lower-cost models while aligning with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang's vision for an open-weight AI ecosystem.
