Father of Nova Festival Victim Confronts Revellers at Massacre Site
Eran Litman, whose daughter was murdered at the Nova festival, confronted revellers celebrating at the massacre site, sparking intense public debate over memorial site etiquette.
Three years after the October 7, 2023 massacre, a tense confrontation took place at the site of the Nova music festival. Eran Litman, whose daughter Oriya was murdered at the festival, confronted revellers who were celebrating Hakafot Shniyot at the sacred site.
Confrontation at the Massacre Site
Speaking to hosts Gideon Oko and Amichai Attali on 103fm radio, Litman described the harrowing encounter. He explained that during a regular visit to the memorial area, he noticed a group dancing and celebrating. Despite a prior understanding that festivities should remain in distant parking lots, the revellers were dancing directly on the grounds.
"I told them my daughter danced her last dance there, and that the ground is saturated with the blood of our children. Even the German Nazis do not dance in Auschwitz," Litman recounted.
Reaction and Police Intervention
According to Litman, the group initially ignored his pleas and continued to dance. Frustrated and grief-stricken, he overturned their table, prompting a brief scuffle before police and a Jewish National Fund representative intervened and promised to clear the area.
Litman emphasized that while he has no objection to holiday celebrations, basic sensitivity is required at a site where 382 Israelis were murdered, comparing it to Yad Vashem or the Mount Carmel disaster memorial.
