From the dollar exchange rate and funding rounds to the global frenzy surrounding the AI sector, we talk quite a bit about the state of the local ecosystem. But what does the picture look like when comparing Israel to leading technology hubs in Europe, Asia, or Silicon Valley? A new comprehensive report by the research firm PitchBook presents the state of high-tech in several countries around the world, and it seems our situation is quite strong.

Leading in Exits

According to data based on the last six years, Israel leads the global ranking in the number of exits per capita, ahead of countries like the USA and the UK. During this period, 42.6 exits per million residents were recorded in Israel, a figure that places it ahead of Singapore (41.2 deals). In terms of exit value per capita, Israel reaches fourth place with $5,628.9 per resident, following the USA, Singapore, and Switzerland.

In the index of deal value per capita, Israel is ranked third in the world ($4,305.1 per resident), while in fund raising per capita, Israel is fourth ($1,808.2 per resident). In addition, Israel takes second place in the world in the number of investment deals per million residents, with 394.7 deals, trailing only Singapore (802.3).

In total, Israeli startups raised capital in an aggregate amount of $41 billion across 3,756 deals. The aggregate volume of exits reached $53.6 billion in 405 deals, while Israeli venture capital funds raised about $17 billion across 211 funds.

General Ranking and AI Sector

In the general country ranking, based on a weighting between the "development score" and the "growth score," Israel reached seventh place. The list is led by the USA, followed by China, India, the UK, Germany, and Japan. If we isolate the "growth score," Israel is positioned 11th in the world.

In the AI field, Israel captures fourth place globally, with the only players ahead of it being the USA, China, and the UK. The competition is quite tight against Germany, which is in fifth place, followed by Canada and France.

An interesting point arising from the report is that despite Israel's impressive achievements at the national level, no Israeli city managed to break into the lists of the world's leading cities. These lists, which include the 10 or 20 strongest local hubs, are dominated by giants like San Francisco, New York, London, and cities in China and India.
