Neither status nor appearance: this is Gen Z's biggest dealbreaker in the dating world
Two-thirds of Gen Z admit they are more likely to date someone with a driver's license, but there is one specific behavior that serves as a major dealbreaker.
Almost two-thirds of Gen Z say they are more likely to date someone who has a driver's license. A survey conducted among 2,000 adults found that license holders are perceived as more independent, confident, and reliable by members of the generation born after 1996. A quarter of Gen Z respondents stated they are more attracted to someone with a driver's license who can assist in emergencies or provide a ride when needed.
Conversely, reckless driving and irresponsible behavior behind the wheel can end a relationship, with 39% put off by bad habits such as road rage or excessive honking. No less than 82% of respondents viewed reckless driving as a significant red flag. The study also found that aggressive driving (46%) was the biggest deterrent for Gen Z, followed by using a mobile phone while driving (34%).
Ian Edwards, an expert on young drivers from the car insurance company Veygo, which commissioned the study, noted:
"Some people underestimate the risks involved in driving on the road, so it is encouraging to see the consensus that safe driving is positive and important, especially among young people. First driving experiences should be more accessible and flexible to help drivers gain the confidence and independence that come with being behind the wheel."
Furthermore, OnePoll data revealed that 51% of all adults think that careful driving is more attractive than appearance or status. One in five would like to list their driving skills on their dating profile to increase their chances of a match. "Driving has always represented freedom, but it is interesting to see how it now also affects the dating world," added Edwards.
