Indian Newlyweds Found Dead in Siddharthnagar Day After Wedding

Just a day after their wedding, 22-year-old Anita Chauhan and her 24-year-old husband, Dashraj Chauhan, were found dead in the groom's family home in a village located in the Siddharthnagar district of India. Police have confiscated the bodies and transferred them for post-mortem examinations to determine the cause of death and whether the incident was a suicide or a criminal act.

The wedding took place on Monday, September 21, at the Tekdhar Baba temple in the city of Bansi. Family members from both sides attended the ceremony, which was followed by a celebratory dinner that concluded around 11:00 PM. Relatives reported that the couple had been in a romantic relationship prior to the wedding and that their marriage, originally planned for April 2027, had been brought forward with the consent of both families.

Investigation and Family Claims

Following the celebrations, the couple retired to a room in the family home. In the morning, relatives noticed there was no response to calls and knocks on the door. Around 7:00 AM, the groom's aunt came to check on them; the door was unlocked and opened with a light push. Inside the room, the groom was found hanging from a ceiling hook, reportedly using a saree, while the bride Anita was found on the floor wearing her wedding attire.

"The autopsy and ongoing forensic investigation will be essential to establish the exact cause of death and the circumstances surrounding the tragedy," local authorities stated.

Simultaneously, the bride's family raised serious allegations against the groom's relatives, claiming the couple was murdered and suggesting that some family members had opposed the union. According to NDTV, the bride's family alleged that the groom's relatives demanded 50,000 rupees in cash and a motorcycle as a dowry condition. Police have stated that these claims are under review and have not yet been officially linked to the deaths as they await definitive forensic reports.
