A surprising turn of events is unfolding behind the scenes of the Eurovision Song Contest, as the Netherlands is expected to return to the competition in 2027. This comes despite the earlier decision by the AVROTROS broadcasting body to boycott the contest in protest of Israel's participation.

On the other hand, Ireland continues its hardline stance. Broadcaster RTÉ announced it will boycott the contest for the second consecutive year, refusing to send a representative or broadcast the event in protest of Israeli participation and the ongoing crisis in Gaza.
Last year, Israel survived a secret ouster vote in Geneva, which triggered a wave of boycotts from other nations such as Iceland, Slovenia, and Spain. Now, despite Ireland's firm stance, the Dutch move may prompt other boycotting nations to reconsider their return following the opening created by the Netherlands.
