Israel observed a national day of remembrance for the fallen soldiers, terror victims, and heroes of the October 7 massacre. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered a speech at the Mount Herzl state memorial ceremony, vowing to complete military objectives and dismantle Hamas rule in the Gaza Strip.
"We will complete the mission and settle accounts with our enemies—we will eradicate the bloody rule of Hamas," Netanyahu stated. Referring to the perpetrators of the October 7 attacks, he added that there is no forgiveness for the murderers and kidnappers, stressing that the military continues to target those responsible.
During his address, the prime minister was briefly interrupted by Yaakov Godo, whose son Tom was killed in Kisufim during the October 7 attacks. Netanyahu also praised the fallen soldiers and security personnel, offering condolences to bereaved families and acknowledging the enduring collective trauma.
President Isaac Herzog also addressed the ceremony, highlighting the heroism of female IDF spotters who manned their posts at Nahal Oz. Herzog issued a warning against deepening societal divisions during the ongoing election campaign, emphasizing that democratic debate must not devolve into destructive polarization.
