Netanyahu and Anduril Founder Discuss Underground Warfare Tech
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu invited Anduril founder Palmer Luckey to Israel to discuss developing autonomous underground weapon systems for subterranean warfare.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu revealed on Sunday that he invited Palmer Luckey, founder of US defense tech firm Anduril, to Israel to discuss developing innovative weapons capable of moving underground. This technology could fundamentally transform warfare in tunnels and subterranean facilities, a major challenge in recent conflicts.
Subterranean Warfare Innovation
"I invited Palmer Luckey here," Netanyahu stated. "He heads a company called Anduril. He speaks about the possibility of penetrating underground. He speaks of unmanned systems operating beneath the ground, systems that actually move through the earth itself."
"The Earth's crust will become a central maneuvering and fighting space in three dimensions," Luckey explained recently.
Luckey, 33, founded Oculus before launching Anduril in 2017, specializing in drones, autonomous weapons, and military AI. Anduril develops systems like the Fury drone, Roadrunner interceptor, Barracuda missiles, and Ghost Shark autonomous submarines.
The Strategic Challenge
The Israeli connection is particularly evident given Hamas's tunnel network in the Gaza Strip, Hezbollah's subterranean infrastructure in Lebanon, and Iran's fortified nuclear facilities. Luckey has explicitly cited Gaza and Iran as prime challenges for these robotic systems.
