Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly met with Saddam Haftar, the son of powerful Libyan commander Khalifa Haftar, during his recent visit to the United Arab Emirates, according to the Italian newspaper Il Foglio. The report, which lacks independent confirmation, stated that the junior Haftar arrived in the UAE approximately 20 minutes after Netanyahu.
Background on Libyan Ties and UAE Visit
While the Prime Minister's Office officially confirmed that Netanyahu met with UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed to discuss bilateral relations and regional challenges alongside top security officials including the Mossad chief and National Security Council head, no official comment was made regarding the alleged meeting with Haftar.
"The visit focused on strengthening bilateral ties and addressing regional challenges," the Prime Minister's Office stated.
According to the Associated Press, Netanyahu reportedly asked the UAE president to deny earlier claims regarding pre-October 7 warnings. Libya has remained deeply fractured since the 2011 fall of Muammar Gaddafi, divided between rival administrations in Tripoli and Benghazi.
