Stray Gunfire Near Negev Playground Sparks Alarm Among Nevatim Residents
Residents of the Negev moshav of Nevatim are alarmed after suspected bullet marks were found on a car near a playground. The incident highlights growing security concerns over stray gunfire across the region.

Residents of the Negev moshav of Nevatim have expressed growing alarm over stray gunfire following an incident in which a parked car near a local children's playground was found bearing suspected bullet marks. According to preliminary assessments, the shots are believed to have been fired from outside the community in the nearby Bedouin diaspora, spilling into residential areas.
While the vehicle had been parked at the location for several days, making the exact time of the incident unclear, police have opened an investigation despite no formal complaint being filed. Authorities reported that no bullets were recovered at the scene and it has not yet been definitively determined whether the marks were caused by gunfire. No arrests have been made as the search for the source of the shooting continues.
Growing Security Concerns Across the Negev
This incident follows a series of similar security concerns in the region. Roughly two weeks prior, residents reported heavy gunfire near homes in Nevatim, which police linked to a violent altercation in the nearby Abu Qweider diaspora. That same week, an unauthorized paraglider was spotted operating dangerously close to the Nevatim Israeli Air Force base, prompting widespread anxiety among locals.
Similar incidents have been reported in other parts of the Negev, including Givot Bar, where residents complained of intensive gunfire originating from nearby Rahat. Law enforcement agencies have ramped up operations against illegal weapons and violent disputes in the area, recently seizing multiple firearms, ammunition magazines, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition in Rahat, including suspected stolen IDF supplies. Despite ongoing police crackdowns, residents in the region continue to voice fears for their safety as stray bullets routinely breach residential perimeters.
