Xavi and Klopp Make Managerial Debuts as Netherlands Draw Germany 1:1
Xavi Hernandez and Jurgen Klopp made their debuts as managers of the Netherlands and Germany in a dramatic 1:1 Nations League draw in Amsterdam.

Dramatic Draw in Amsterdam
Xavi Hernandez and Jurgen Klopp made their managerial debuts for the national teams of the Netherlands and Germany respectively, resulting in a dramatic 1:1 draw in Amsterdam during the opening round of the UEFA Nations League. Felix Nmecha gave the visitors the lead in the 32nd minute, but Cody Gakpo equalized in the 90+2nd minute to secure a valuable point for the Oranje.
Xavi expressed satisfaction primarily with his players' reaction after the break. "In the first half we were a bit nervous," the Spanish coach said. "At halftime, I said we needed to show more personality and asked for more ambition. I saw that in the second half. I am glad the players understood after the break that we were superior."
"We deserved more than this. We created many chances, pressed well, and took a lot of initiative. I am less satisfied with the number of duels we lost, but I have a good feeling." — Xavi Hernandez
Klopp's Encouraging Start Despite Injuries
On the other side, despite the late equalizer, Germany saw plenty of encouraging signs in Klopp's first match. Bild reported that the team was far more aggressive and energetic, displaying trademark characteristics of the manager's teams: speed on the wings, high pressing, and a rapid transition to regain possession.
Klopp stated after the match: "Most of the time it felt good. There was a long list of things that worked. We started brilliantly in the first ten minutes, but then we had real problems. Of course, I really wanted to win, but I can live with the draw."
Alongside the positives, Klopp suffered two squad blows. Jamal Musiala felt thigh pain during the warm-up and had to withdraw, replaced by Nadiem Amiri. During the first half, Kai Havertz was also injured and substituted after half an hour. Both players underwent MRI scans for muscle injuries.
