Israel opened their UEFA Nations League campaign with a 3-1 defeat to Austria after Saiid Abu Farchi was sent off following his equalizer.
Israel suffered a disappointing 3-1 defeat against Austria in their UEFA Nations League opener on Thursday evening. Despite playing a long stretch with a numerical disadvantage, the blue-and-whites pushed the hosts hard before conceding goals in the 90th and 93rd minutes, leaving them empty-handed.

Saiid Abu Farchi turned from hero to tragic figure within the span of a minute. In the 55th minute, he scored his debut goal to equalize at 1-1, but immediately celebrated by pulling the corner flag out of the ground, earning a second yellow card and subsequent dismissal.
"I am very disappointed. Given how the game developed, we deserved more than a defeat. The players made a heroic effort to stay in the game," said head coach Ran Ben Shimon after the match.
