A special delegation from Moshi, Tanzania, arrived on Thursday at the Mateh Asher Regional Council to sign a historic twin-city agreement, bringing a message of hope and resilience after years of conflict.

The ceremony was highlighted by the rhythmic drumming of children from the Arab-Jewish village of Sheikh Danoun, echoing at the council's entrance. The partnership carries deep symbolic meaning, as the African city is located near the Hai district—a name that shares the same pronunciation and meaning for "life" in both Hebrew and Swahili.

Vision of Partnership

Moshe Davidovich, head of the Mateh Asher Regional Council and chairman of the Confrontation Line Forum, noted the historical roots of the initiative. "More than sixty years after Golda Meir forged the historic bond with Tanzania and spoke of the deep spiritual connection between our peoples, we are fulfilling that vision today," Davidovich stated.

Moshi Mayor Eng. Zuberi Abdallah Kidumo emphasized the broad scope of the new cooperation. "We choose to be friends with Mateh Asher and to cooperate in agriculture, environment, sports, tourism, and above all, education, serving as a bridge for peace between Africa and Israel," Kidumo said. He added that despite warnings about traveling to a dangerous area, the delegation discovered a wonderful country with a warm reception upon landing.

Academic and Cultural Ties

Dr. Mathias Sylvester Nkuhi of the Moshi Co-operative University highlighted the collaborative future of the two regions. "We came here from the foothills of Kilimanjaro not only to sign an agreement but to launch joint events and develop shared fields," Nkuhi remarked, praising the diverse culture and wonderful people of northern Israel.
