American cloud and data giant MongoDB is in advanced talks to acquire Israeli data startup Firebolt for an estimated $250 million to $300 million, marking its first-ever acquisition in Israel. While negotiations have not yet been finalized, the potential deal has drawn significant attention across the tech sector. Founded in 2018 by Sisense alumni Eldad Farkash, Saar Bitner, and Ariel Yudškevič, Firebolt specializes in advanced cloud data warehousing solutions designed to process massive corporate datasets with high performance and computational efficiency.

During the pandemic-era tech boom, Firebolt raised approximately $270 million from prominent venture capital firms including Zeev Ventures, TLV Partners, Bessemer Venture Partners, Dawn Capital, and Alkeon Capital. In early 2022, the company attained unicorn status, achieving a peak valuation of $1.4 billion. However, shifting macroeconomic conditions and intense market competition later forced the company to implement operational restructuring, cost cuts, and layoffs. In September 2025, leadership changes saw Benjamin Wagner step in as CEO, while the founders transitioned to executive board roles.

The pending acquisition highlights the new financial reality facing many growth-stage technology firms. Firebolt's valuation adjustment from $1.4 billion to the current agreed range reflects a broader trend of Israeli unicorns exiting at a fraction of their peak valuations. For MongoDB, the acquisition is expected to strengthen its data analytics capabilities, whereas for early investors, the deal represents a capital recovery rather than the exponential returns initially projected.
