Royal Bodyguards Advised Meghan Markle Against Exposing Father's Allegations
Meghan Markle reportedly wanted to expose allegations against her father in 2019, but royal bodyguards advised her against going public.
Meghan Markle reportedly wanted to publicly address serious allegations against her father, Thomas Markle, but was advised against it by her Royal Protection officers. The revelation follows Scotland Yard's confirmation that it delivered a letter to the Duchess of Sussex in January 2019 detailing claims of child sexual abuse.
The seven-handwritten-page letter was written by Roslyn Loveless, Thomas Markle's first wife. It alleged that the former Hollywood lighting technician engaged in abusive behavior and traveled to the Philippines and Thailand. Loveless passed away in 2024.
According to reports, a Metropolitan Police protection officer told Meghan to leave the matter to them and avoid public disclosure. At the time, the Duchess faced severe criticism for cutting ties with her father ahead of her 2018 wedding without public explanation. Scotland Yard did not investigate the claims further because the alleged incidents occurred abroad.
The scandal came to light after Thomas Markle Jr. discovered explicit material at his father's residence in the Philippines and reported the findings to local authorities and the FBI. An ongoing investigation is currently being managed in the Philippines in cooperation with the FBI. Meanwhile, Thomas Markle Sr., 82, has vehemently denied all allegations of child abuse, though he admitted to previously paying for adult sex services.
