Former New Jersey Teacher Pleads Guilty in Child Abuse Case Involving Student
Former New Jersey teacher Laura Caron has pleaded guilty to child endangerment charges after giving birth to a child fathered by a former student when he was 13. She faces five years in prison under a plea deal.

Former New Jersey teacher Laura Caron, 36, has pleaded guilty to second-degree endangering the welfare of a child through sexual contact, according to the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office. Under the plea agreement reached on October 28, Caron faces a recommended sentence of five years in prison, forfeiture of her teaching license, and lifetime registration as a sex offender.
Caron taught fifth grade at Middle Township Elementary School No. 2, where she taught the victim and his brother. According to investigators, the abuse began around 2016 when the victim was approximately 11 years old, after Caron developed a close friendship with the family that eventually led to the children residing at her home. In April 2019, Caron gave birth to a child fathered by the student when he was 13 years old.
The case came to light in late 2024 after the victim's father noticed a striking family resemblance in a photograph and raised concerns, prompting a police investigation that led to Caron's arrest in January 2025. Following her arrest, the former student publicly defended Caron in a media interview, stating that he initiated the relationship and urging authorities to drop the charges.
Caron's sentencing is scheduled for January 8, 2027, pending the completion of a court-ordered professional evaluation to determine if her conduct is repetitive or compulsive, which could impact her final placement and sentence.
