Ukraine Strikes Major Russian Oil Refinery in Nizhny Novgorod Region
Ukraine launched a drone strike against Russia's fourth-largest oil refinery in Nizhny Novgorod, resuming deep-strike operations despite recent diplomatic efforts.

Ukraine launched a large-scale drone attack targeting a major oil refinery in Kstovo, located in Russia's Nizhny Novgorod region roughly 400 kilometers east of Moscow, according to regional reports.
The targeted facility ranks as Russia's fourth-largest oil refinery and previously sustained damage from a Ukrainian strike late last August. Local residents shared footage across Telegram channels showing explosions, towering black smoke, and multiple active fires burning within the refinery complex.
This latest strike follows a broader wave of Ukrainian drone operations against Russian energy infrastructure that began Friday, when a facility in Samara Oblast was hit and caught fire. The targeted installations include strategic energy assets operated by the state-owned oil company Rosneft, processing millions of tons of oil annually and producing jet fuel utilized by the Russian Air Force.
The renewed offensive unfolds amid sensitive diplomatic developments, arriving shortly after western media reports indicated that Kyiv had informally agreed to suspend attacks on Russian oil facilities following pressure from Washington to stabilize global energy markets. Security analysts assess that the resumption of deep-strike operations signals a calculated decision by Ukraine to escalate military pressure.
