New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani harshly criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during an appearance on the American podcast "This Past Weekend". Mamdani labeled Netanyahu as the "architect of genocide" and stated that if it were up to him, the U.S. government would join the International Criminal Court in The Hague and enforce the arrest warrant issued against him.

During the interview, Mamdani was asked about the potential arrest of Netanyahu during a visit to the city, explaining that the authority to do so lies with the federal government. However, the mayor emphasized that the U.S. should enforce these warrants due to suspicions of crimes against humanity, arguing that failing to uphold international law undermines the rule of law and public trust.

Responding directly to remarks previously directed at him by Netanyahu at the UN General Assembly, Mamdani described the personal attack as "bizarre" and claimed it was an attempt to divert attention from accountability. "This isn't about me and him," the mayor clarified, adding sarcastically: "If I were the architect of genocide, I probably wouldn't be talking about anything else."

Alongside his critique, Mamdani sought to separate government policy from American Jews, clarifying that criticism of Israel is not antisemitism. As the head of the city with the largest Jewish population in the U.S., he stressed that no New York Jew is responsible for Israel's actions, pointing the finger instead at the Israeli government and the financiers of weapons shipments.
