Former Venezuelan Leader Nicolás Maduro Faces New US Torture Charges
Former Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro and his wife face new US charges over the alleged torture of detained American citizens, according to reports.

New charges are expected against former Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores, involving the alleged torture of American citizens held in Venezuela. According to CNN, prosecutors in New York are preparing the indictments following an investigation into the abuse of detained Americans in recent years.
The new charges focus on the unlawful detention of more than 12 US citizens in Venezuelan prisons under Maduro's regime. Investigators are also examining potential charges against other individuals involved in the alleged acts of torture and repression.
Maduro and Flores were arrested last January during a US military raid on the presidential palace in Caracas. They are currently being held in New York without bail as they appeal prior drug and terrorism charges.
