Three years after the October 7 massacre, New York City marked the sombre anniversary with protests, rallies, and sharp political divisions. In Union Square, a quiet commemoration organized by the group "Israelis for Peace" faced heavy disruptions from pro-Palestinian demonstrators.

Protests and Political Fallout in New York

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani attended the Union Square gathering, where he was met with angry shouts of "Traitor!" from protesters who accused him of backtracking on his pre-election promises regarding Palestinian rights. Demonstrators also gathered outside Manhattan City Hall to voice their outrage.

In an interview prior to the event, Mayor Mamdani addressed the anniversary, stating:

We are talking about the third anniversary of a horrific war crime where Hamas killed more than a thousand people and kidnapped hundreds more. We are also talking about the anniversary of the day the Israeli government responded with a genocide of Palestinians in Gaza—which continues to the present day.

Simultaneously, hundreds of pro-Palestinian activists marched across New York, chanting slogans such as "Long live Hamas,Death to the IDF," and calling to "keep the Intifada alive."

International and Domestic Reactions

U.S. President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to mark the solemn anniversary, emphasizing America's unwavering stance against terror.

Today, three years ago, the world witnessed one of the darkest and worst days in Israel's history. Innocent men, women, and children were murdered, kidnapped, and subjected to unimaginable atrocities by Hamas terrorists.

Meanwhile, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries criticized Israeli policies, demanding a "dramatic change" in U.S. strategy in the Middle East, while reaffirming America's commitment to Israel's right to exist and the dismantling of Hamas.
