Maccabi Tel Aviv Fans Protest Against Chairman Shimon Mizrahi

Amid a control battle within the board of directors of Maccabi Tel Aviv basketball club, members of the "Nisharim BaMapa" fan association launched a direct protest campaign against the club's veteran chairman, Shimon Mizrahi.
Before dawn, over one hundred protest signs were hung across Tel Aviv, specifically around Mizrahi's private residence, bearing the explicit demand: "Shimon, choose a side."
Anger in the stands was triggered by Mizrahi's unexpected decision to exercise his right of first refusal to purchase the share package held by the Recanati family. This move, expected to boost Mizrahi's holdings from 14.5% to approximately 40.5%, makes him the primary and most powerful shareholder in the club. The maneuver was designed to block businessman Richard Dietz from acquiring a majority stake in the team, completely shifting the balance of managerial power.
The fan organization accuses the current management of ongoing professional and administrative uncertainty, demanding that Mizrahi change direction. In a statement, they urged him to come to his senses and avoid tarnishing his long-standing legacy by aligning with elements that harm the club's future. This protest follows previous vigils held by fans outside the homes of other shareholders, marking a planned escalation in the struggle over the future of Maccabi Tel Aviv.
