Maccabi Haifa hosted Hapoel Beersheba at Sammy Ofer Stadium on Monday with a clear objective: to reclaim the top spot in the Premier League, extend their impressive momentum, and prove their championship credentials. Instead, Barak Bakhar's side suffered a disastrous second-half collapse, conceding five goals in a stunning 5-2 defeat to the reigning champions. Adam Grimberg scored a late consolation for the Greens, but the visitors from the Negev celebrated a resounding victory that leaves Haifa searching for answers.

Speaking after the match, Maccabi Haifa coach Barak Bakhar expressed deep disappointment over his team's sudden unraveling. "We conceded three goals in just a few minutes, right after a strong start to the second half," Bakhar said. "The game was over for us within ten minutes. A mistake and a red card finished us off, and in the end, we conceded five. There were great expectations from us and the fans, and this is a harsh slap in the face. It was a major test for us to show we belong at the top, and apparently, we are not there yet."

The Haifa manager noted that his squad competed well until the defensive breakdown. "Until the collapse, I felt we matched them, but it is a pity what happened," he added, looking ahead to next week's fixture against Hapoel Tel Aviv. "We helped Hapoel Beersheba look great, especially from the 50th minute onward. They are a strong, good team that came here and did their job properly, and we handed it to them.

Maccabi Haifa captain Kenji Gora also addressed the heavy defeat, offering an apology to the loyal supporters who traveled to the stadium. "We are very disappointed, and I want to apologize to all the fans who came here tonight," Gora said. "We had high expectations, especially after five consecutive wins, and losing this way is painful. I deeply respect the fans who cheered us until the final whistle and gave us energy. This is football, one match does not define everything, and we must analyze what happened and move forward."
