Lionel Messi unveiled his special golden-accented jersey for his upcoming farewell match with Argentina against Benin, marking the end of his historic international career.
Lionel Messi revealed the special jersey he will wear in his final match for the Argentina national team against Benin on October 6 at the Monumental Stadium in Buenos Aires. Posted on his Instagram account, the gold-numbered jersey features sun-ray-like patterns. "Last game... a shirt for a lifetime," Messi captioned the post.
The match against Benin will be entirely dedicated to Messi, who will receive an official farewell ceremony from the national team in front of the Argentine crowd, bringing a historic international career to a close. Messi led Argentina to victory in the 2021 Copa América, the 2022 Finalissima, the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and another Copa América in 2024.
Previously, he won the 2008 Olympic gold medal in Beijing and the 2005 U-20 World Cup. Along with these titles, Messi became Argentina's all-time leading appearance maker and top goalscorer. At the 2022 World Cup, he scored seven goals, including two in the final against France, leading La Albiceleste to their first World Cup title since 1986.
