Lieberman Urges Shin Bet to Take Over Disappearance Probe of Haymanot Kassau

MK Avigdor Lieberman, leader of the Yisrael Beytenu party, has called on Shin Bet chief David Zini to examine transferring the investigation into the disappearance of 9-year-old Haymanot Kassau entirely to the security agency.

Call for Shin Bet Intervention

In an official letter, Lieberman requested that the agency deploy its full intelligence, operational, and technological capabilities to solve the case. Haymanot Kassau disappeared approximately two and a half years ago from an absorption center in Safed where she lived with her family. Despite extensive searches and years of investigative efforts, no breakthrough has been achieved.

Lieberman noted a recent meeting between Israeli President Isaac Herzog and the Kassau family, during which the president stated he had spoken with the Shin Bet director and that the agency was stepping in. However, Lieberman emphasized that given the extensive time that has passed, partial assistance to the Israel Police is insufficient.

Review of Investigative Leads

Lieberman urged a thorough reassessment of all existing investigative materials and previously explored leads. He also stressed the need to utilize the unique tools of the Shin Bet to explore new directions.

As time passes, the possibility of discovering new evidence or recovering findings that were not collected in real time naturally diminishes, Lieberman wrote.

He called for out-of-the-box thinking, deeper intelligence operations, and an examination of potential links to other unsolved cases.

Appeal to Public Conscience

The disappearance of a 9-year-old child without a trace is an event that Israel cannot accept, Lieberman stated. He highlighted the ongoing suffering of the Kassau family, who continue to protest in Jerusalem to raise public awareness.

Lieberman concluded by urging Zini to seriously consider transferring full jurisdiction of the case to the Shin Bet to finally locate Haymanot and return her to her family.
