Data reveals: erosion in the number of public transport trip validations
The Central Bureau of Statistics has published data on public transport trip validations for 2024–2025. The figures indicate an erosion and a decline in validated trips across most transport lines.
The Central Bureau of Statistics published today, Tuesday, data on public transport trip validations between 2024 and 2025, which shows an erosion and even a decline in the number of validated trips on most public transport lines.
Bus trip validations stood at 780.9 million, increasing by only about 1.4% in 2025 — a smaller increase than the population growth rate. The highest percentage of trip validations was recorded on Wednesdays (18.5%), while the lowest was recorded on Mondays (17.8%).
The highest number of bus trip validations in major cities was in Jerusalem, where the number of validations stood at 171.4 million, followed by Tel Aviv-Yafo with 81.3 million. In Haifa, 54.8 million validations were recorded.
The number of validations on the Jerusalem Light Rail decreased by about 24% compared to 2024, standing at 29.9 million, against the backdrop of renovations on the central section last autumn. In addition, the number of trip validations on the Carmelit in Haifa stood at about one million, a decrease of about 7% compared to 2024.
In contrast, the number of validations on the Gush Dan Light Rail stood at 29.9 million in 2025 — an increase of 21% compared to 2024, when the number of validations was 24.7 million.
