"Agreements will not protect us": The threat intensifying on Israel's borders

MK Amit Halevi warned today (Thursday) in an interview with Oded Harush on the "Open Studio" program about new arenas from which security threats we were not familiar with are emerging: "Turkey and Egypt are not Hamas and Hezbollah," Halevi said, emphasizing that his words are based on intelligence reports.

"The Middle East is changing"

According to Halevi, "The biggest challenge, perhaps, in the security context, is not just Judea and Samaria, Hamas and Hezbollah. They will turn out to be 'peanuts' compared to Turkey and Egypt – we are talking about something else here."

"As someone who reads intelligence reports diligently, I say that the Middle East is changing before our eyes. We see the Sunni alliance between Pakistan, Turkey, and Qatar, which was formed in parallel to the Shiite alliance, and I remind you that they cooperate – Iran cooperated with Hamas – there is also a Muslim alliance against the Jews," Halevi claimed, warning that Israel faces a great challenge the likes of which we have not known.

"The citizens do not understand this: we are neighbors of Turkey today. Just as Hezbollah is Iran, so today's Syria is essentially Turkey. The challenges facing us are enormous," he reiterated.

Later in the interview, Oded Harush asked Halevi: "Reassure me and the viewers. Are they really taking these things seriously in the classified committees and preparing for the new threats? Every citizen today can see on Google Maps what is happening on the Egyptian border for all to see. Can we be calm? Is this not being ignored?"

Halevi replied:

"Agreements will not protect me and you. I said this to senior Aman officials in the committee when they waved political 'papers' instead of addressing the capabilities and what is happening in the Sinai."
