US intelligence reports from recent weeks reveal that Iran has grown increasingly confident in its military capabilities to strike targets across the Middle East, according to a report by The New York Times. The regime in Tehran appears determined to sustain the confrontation for months to complicate US strategic planning.

Intelligence Assessments and Regional Escalation

Recent military exchanges suggest that the Iranian regime may consider a significant escalation in the near future. Last week, Iran targeted shipping vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and attempted to strike US forces in the region, prompting US retaliatory strikes inside Iran. Sources briefed on the intelligence state that Iran has emerged from recent months of conflict with a stronger self-assessment of its military capabilities.

US officials believe reaching a diplomatic agreement to end the hostilities remains highly unlikely. Currently, there are no signs that Iran is open to a deal with the US. Conversely, President Donald Trump is not pursuing negotiations at this stage, believing that economic sanctions will eventually force Tehran to yield control of the Strait of Hormuz and potentially halt its nuclear program. However, intelligence reports suggest that in the short term, economic pressure is likely to trigger further escalation.

Cyberattacks on US Infrastructure

US officials also attribute cyberattacks targeting more than 100 water systems across the United States to state-sponsored Iranian hackers. While there were no indications that the water safety was compromised, the cyber intrusions caused operational disruptions that required manual overrides and prompted local boil-water advisories.

Trump Issues Direct Warning

US President Donald Trump delivered a sharp warning to Tehran, declaring that American forces could target Iran's Pickaxe Mountain facility on short notice. Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, the President reiterated that he would not allow the Islamic Republic to acquire nuclear weapons, stating:

"We may hit Pickaxe Mountain very soon because if there is anything going on with Pickaxe, we will act."

President Donald Trump emphasized that any prohibited activity at the site would trigger an immediate American military response.
