The theft of engineering equipment on Monday by Hamas terrorists who infiltrated territory under Israeli control was not reported in real-time to the political echelon. The offices of the Prime Minister and the Minister of Defense learned of the incident only from a report on Channel 14.

A senior political source described the scale of the failure:

"The failure to grant authorization contradicts explicit instructions from the political echelon to open fire on anyone crossing the yellow line and threatening our forces."

As previously revealed, a number of Hamas terrorists crossed into the yellow zone after being identified by IDF observers, stole engineering equipment, and returned to the red zone without any fire being opened at them. Furthermore, soldiers testify that they identified the terrorists in real-time during the act and requested permission to eliminate them, but were refused by the senior command.

This grave incident testifies to the scale of the failure over the last two weeks, since the explicit order from the political echelon to stop firing in the Gaza Strip, except in cases of clear and immediate danger to life.
