"The Egyptian vision is based on Palestinian management of the Strip"

An Egyptian source familiar with the details told the Qatari newspaper "Al-Araby Al-Jadeed" today, Tuesday, that Cairo is prepared to play a more influential role in the post-war arrangements in the Gaza Strip, but on the condition that Israel fulfills the obligations of the second phase of the ceasefire agreement.
However, the Egyptian source emphasized that Cairo does not intend to be directly involved in military or security management of Gaza. According to him, Egyptian action in the near future may include the continued training of Palestinian police and limited participation in an international stabilization force.
He emphasized that the role Cairo is preparing to play will be in the humanitarian and logistical fields, alongside involvement in reconstruction work and the introduction of additional supplies into Gaza.
According to the source, Cairo views the implementation of Israel's commitments in the second phase as a necessary condition for greater Egyptian involvement. He noted that a more expanded role for Egypt cannot be a substitute for the withdrawal of IDF forces from the Strip and for "creating the conditions necessary for the start of the transition phase in Gaza."
"Egyptian involvement does not mean that Cairo is prepared to take responsibility for managing the Gaza Strip, or to intervene in clashes with Palestinian factions (terrorist organizations), or to bear the direct security burden in Gaza. The Egyptian vision is based on Palestinian management of the Strip with the provision of the necessary support."
