Netanyahu’s jab at Britain: “The Islamic Republic of Britain”
Will this stir echoes in London? The prime minister took a swipe at Britain in a podcast, hinting at past remarks by JD Vance. “Someone said the first Islamic Republic with nuclear weapons will be Britain. We are concerned that there won’t be another one here, in Iran.”
The Labour Party government of Andy Burnham is considered critical of Israel, but Britain — one of the most important countries in the world, especially in Europe — still maintains deep ties with Israel across many fields. However, in the podcast “King in Live Broadcast” with Avi Rosh, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took a swipe at London, calling it “the Islamic Republic of Britain” — a remark that may spark echoes in Britain.
Netanyahu noted that Randolph Churchill, the son of a former prime minister who served as a journalist, “covered the Six-Day War in a very positive way for us. Go find that in Britain now, in the so-called Islamic Republic of Britain, go find that.”
In response to a question about whether all of Europe has already become something similar, Netanyahu — hinting at remarks made two years ago by US Vice President JD Vance — said: “Someone said the first Islamic Republic with nuclear weapons will be the Islamic Republic of Britain. We are concerned that there won’t be another one here, in Iran.”
Avi Davush from the “Democrats” list responded to Netanyahu’s remarks on X: “You are the prime minister, you have responsibility, and you sit there making jokes about Britain. A member of the Security Council that is six times larger than Israel.”
