Knesset to Hold Secret Session Amid IDF-Treasury Budget Dispute
The Knesset Finance Committee will hold a top-secret session on Wednesday to resolve a bitter funding dispute between the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Finance over 15 billion shekels in urgent military acquisitions.

A top-secret meeting of the Knesset Finance Committee is scheduled for Wednesday to address a severe budget dispute between the IDF, the Ministry of Defense, and the Ministry of Finance. Military officials have repeatedly warned that delays in funding hinder critical arms purchases and advanced munitions procurement.
The session, titled "Summoning for a Discussion on Urgent Needs of the Ministry of Defense," will be led by MK Boaz Bismuth, with representatives from the National Security Council, the Ministry of Defense, and the Budget Directorate of the Ministry of Finance in attendance. According to military sources, the Defense Ministry is demanding 15 billion shekels for urgent requirements that have gone unanswered for two months.
The Impact on Military Preparedness
Defense officials cautioned that the budget deadlock risks missing procurement windows for aircraft deals with the US Department of Defense. They warned that without immediate budget allocation, the IDF will be forced to scale back reserve duty, reduce personnel force build-up programs, and curtail training sessions and construction projects.
"This means damage to air defense interceptors, munitions production, and weapons systems manufacturing. We already feel the impact, which affects debts, interest rates, and the competitiveness of Israeli defense industries abroad," a senior defense official stated.
Budget Constraints and the Numerator
The IDF and the Ministry of Defense operate under the 2026 budget law, while the Ministry of Finance's three-year planning tool—the "numerator"—caps government commitments. Treasury officials argue that requested funds require designated budgetary sources, while defense sources counter that other government ministries have underutilized their 2026 allocations.
