The security situation in the Middle East continues to heavily impact the global aviation sector, driven by rising fuel prices and growing safety concerns amid regional tensions. Major international carriers are scaling back operations, further limiting connectivity across the region.

Dutch national carrier KLM announced the suspension of its flights between Amsterdam Schiphol Airport and Dubai until March 27, 2027. The move significantly impacts winter tourism, as Dubai remains a popular warm-weather destination for European travelers during the colder months. KLM stated that the decision stems from ongoing security tensions and operational uncertainty in the Middle East, with no immediate guarantee of resumption.

In addition to halting flights to the United Arab Emirates, KLM has suspended its routes to Saudi Arabia, canceling flights to Riyadh and Dammam until November 27, with a possible extension. Other European carriers have taken similar steps; the Lufthansa Group, including SWISS, previously announced the suspension of all flights to the UAE until late November 2026.

The reduction in flights affects both direct passenger traffic and travelers relying on European hubs for connecting flights. KLM confirmed that affected passengers will receive direct notifications with options for re-booking, rescheduling, or full refunds. Meanwhile, Israeli carriers including El Al Israel Airlines, Israir, and Arkia have also suspended operations on various regional routes following updated security advisories.
