Jerusalem Man Arrested for Sukkah Arson Revealed to Have Long Criminal Record
A Jerusalem resident was arrested for allegedly setting fire to a sukkah on Agrippa Street during Sukkot. Police revealed he has 14 prior convictions, including past arson cases.
Ihab Barakat, a resident of Jerusalem, was arrested on suspicion of setting fire to a sukkah on Agrippa Street in Jerusalem during the Sukkot holiday. According to investigation materials presented to the court, the incident occurred on September 27, and the suspect was apprehended following police investigative measures.
During a hearing at the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court, the police requested a six-day extension of the suspect's detention, arguing that there is reasonable suspicion of his involvement in the arson and that further investigative steps are still required.
The hearing also revealed the suspect's extensive criminal and security background. The police informed the court that he has 14 prior convictions for various offenses, including violence, threats, property crimes, security offenses, violation of legal orders, and more.
It was further noted that in 2018 he was convicted of four counts of arson by the Jerusalem District Court. The suspect denied the allegations against him, but the court ruled that at this stage a reasonable suspicion exists to justify continuing the investigation, ordering his detention extended until October 4, 2026.
