Jerusalem Bus Driver Injured in Violent Stoning Attack on Kanfei Nesharim
A Jerusalem bus driver was injured and his vehicle stoned in a violent ambush on Kanfei Nesharim Street. The transport union warned of a recurring racist pattern and demanded immediate increased security.
A routine bus transfer turned into a violent ambush early Tuesday morning in the heart of Jerusalem. A Superbus driver completing route 75 and returning to a depot on Kanfei Nesharim Street was blocked by a private vehicle.
After the driver asked the occupants to move, they exited the car and pelted the bus with stones. The attack shattered the bus windows, injured the driver in the eyes, and required his evacuation for medical treatment. A formal complaint has been filed with the Jerusalem Police.
The Koach LaOvdim transport workers union condemned the incident, stating it was not a dispute or prank, but a planned lynching attempt targeting drivers, warning that a driver's murder is imminent. According to Jerusalem regional head Yael Shalev Yagiser, such racially motivated ambushes occur roughly once a month, targeting a workforce where over 50 percent of public transport drivers in the city are Arab.
The union recalled a severe attack last August in which driver Moatasem KAK lost nine teeth, and called on the Ministry of Transport to immediately expand the city's mounted security unit—currently consisting of only three guards—recognize public transport workers as public servants, and bring the attackers to justice.
