"I don't trust the police": Crime organization head Eyal Nagar refuses to testify
A source close to Eyal Nagar stated that he is exercising his right to remain silent and is confident in his innocence. His wife's detention is also set to be extended. Police claim they have evidence linking Nagar to extortion and the takeover of restaurant delivery services in Ashdod.
The head of the crime organization, Eyal Nagar, will be brought to court today, Sunday, for another extension of his detention, two weeks after he was first arrested along with several members of his organization and his wife.
A source close to Nagar reported that he "is not speaking during interrogations, he is exercising his right to remain silent," adding that Nagar "does not trust the police." The source further stated:
"According to Nagar, he has been harassed for years. He is confident in his innocence. This is not the first time he has been arrested, he has no connection to the matter. He is sure that this time too, the case will be closed."
In addition to Nagar and the members of the organization he heads, his wife was also arrested, and she will be brought for an extension of her detention tomorrow. Police sources claim that the investigation is ongoing and that they have evidence linking the head of the organization to his and his associates' takeover of restaurant delivery services in Ashdod, as well as extortion of restaurants in the city.
Nagar's lawyer, Ori Ben Nathan, said:
"Eyal has been in custody for two weeks without the police presenting him with a single piece of evidence. If there were evidence, it would have already been presented to him."
About two weeks ago, Eyal Nagar, identified as a crime organization head in the south, was arrested in Ashdod. The Magistrate's Court in Ashkelon then extended his detention by seven days.
Nagar, an ally of the murdered crime organization head Beni Shlomo, has become one of the main targets of the Israel Police since the collapse of Shlomo's organization. Immediately after Shlomo's murder, Nagar did what no one believed in the criminal world: a "sulha" (reconciliation) with his sworn enemies, the Lavi brothers. A reconciliation and alliance that holds to this day. Due to this move, another part of Shlomo's organization saw Nagar as a "traitor," leading to wars for control.
