Israeli Tourist Dies in Tragic Boating Accident on Norwegian Lake
A 24-year-old Israeli from Jerusalem died in a boating accident on Lake Vangsvatnet in western Norway. His friend was rescued and hospitalized, while the Israeli embassy assists with repatriation.

A tragic boating accident in western Norway has claimed the life of a 24-year-old Israeli tourist from Jerusalem. The incident occurred on Lake Vangsvatnet in the Voss region, when a boat carrying two Israelis ran into distress during adverse weather conditions.
Search and Rescue Operation
Local emergency services launched a massive rescue operation after an alert was raised. According to Norwegian media, the search effort involved water rescue teams, rescue helicopters, drones, and canine units operating under challenging conditions characterized by strong winds and high waves.
Rescuers managed to pull one of the young men from the water. He was conscious and was evacuated to a hospital in Voss for medical treatment. However, his friend remained missing.
"Following an intensive search lasting about two hours, the second man was located and brought ashore," local authorities reported. Paramedics performed life-saving resuscitation efforts at the scene before he was airlifted to Haukeland University Hospital in Bergen, where he was pronounced dead.
Consular Assistance and Repatriation
The Israeli Embassy in Oslo and the Department for Israelis Abroad at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are coordinating with Norwegian authorities. Representatives are in direct contact with the victim's family, assisting with the necessary procedures alongside providing continued support to the injured survivor.
Chaim Weingarten, ZAKA's head of operations, stated: "This is a difficult and tragic incident. We are working closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and local authorities in Norway to facilitate the release of the body and its swift return to Israel for burial."
