Car insurance prices in Israel continued to decline in the third quarter of 2026, dropping 4% and completing a 13% decrease over the past year, according to the Wobi index. Since peaking in the first quarter of 2025, comprehensive insurance costs have plummeted by 25%. Wobi, which is currently undergoing acquisition proceedings by Phoenix Holdings, notes that the gap between the highest and lowest insurance offers for the same policyholder averages more than 4,500 NIS.

Market pressures from the Capital Market Authority, a halt in soaring spare parts prices, a moderation in average claim payouts, and a 20% drop in vehicle thefts reported by police in the first half of the year drove the price cuts. However, rising garage labor rates, material costs, and a shortage of technicians have partially curbed further declines. Unlike comprehensive insurance, third-party liability insurance rates remained stable over the past year.

Price trends varied significantly across specific vehicle models over the past year. Comprehensive insurance for the Toyota C-HR plunged 27%, while insurance for the Hyundai Ioniq and Chery Tiggo 7 dropped 22%. The Mazda 3 saw a 17% decrease, BYD Atto 3 and Kia Sportage dropped 16%, Volkswagen Polo fell 10%, and Tesla Model 3 declined 5%. Conversely, insurance for the Hyundai Elantra surged 18%, and the Hyundai Sonata rose 5%.

As third-party insurance rates held steady, the average financial gap between comprehensive and third-party policies narrowed by about 1,500 NIS within a year and a half, standing now at approximately 2,000 NIS. Nadav Schreibman, head of research and analysis at Wobi, noted that car owners who previously hesitated to buy comprehensive coverage might find it worthwhile to reevaluate their options, though he emphasized that choices should account for coverage scope and vehicle value alongside pricing.
