Unexpected Guest in the Dresser: Meter-Long Snake Found in Lingerie Drawer

A woman living in an attic apartment in the town of Schopfheim, Germany, experienced a true nightmare when she opened her lingerie drawer and discovered a snake nearly a meter long inside. The terrified woman quickly dialed emergency services, prompting the arrival of police and a reptile expert.
According to a report by ZEIT ONLINE, reptile expert Armin Behler, who has been assisting local authorities with the capture of reptiles and spiders for five decades, identified the intruder as a non-venomous North American corn snake.
Behler extracted the reddish female from the dresser with his bare hands. He noted that the snake was uninjured but appeared to have lost weight, suggesting it had been wandering outside its terrarium for some time.
The Mystery: How Did the Snake Reach the Top Floor?
How the reptile managed to infiltrate an apartment on the top floor remains a mystery. Behler suggested that the snake likely belongs to a neighbor in the building, as there are no trees near the structure to facilitate climbing, and snakes are incapable of jumping. He reassured the resident, explaining that corn snakes feed on small mice and pose no threat to humans: "I am not surprised the tenant didn't notice it earlier—these are quiet and inconspicuous pets."
The snake has been placed in temporary custody with Behler. Local police stated that the owner is invited to contact the station or the expert to reclaim their pet.
