Broke into an apartment in Tel Aviv - and fell asleep in the living room while the tenants were sleeping at home
He entered the apartment at night, while the residents were inside, and instead of fleeing, he simply fell asleep on the sofa. In the morning, police officers found the 29-year-old Tel Aviv resident sleeping in the living room and arrested him. This was just one of seven arrests made by Yarkon District police officers over the weekend, as part of a series of break-in incidents throughout Tel Aviv.
A highly unusual incident awaited the police officers of the Lev Tel Aviv station on Saturday morning, after a report was received about a suspicious person inside an apartment on Dafna Street in the city. When the officers entered the apartment, they discovered the suspect in the most unexpected place — sleeping on the living room sofa, while the residents of the house were themselves in the apartment.
An initial check revealed that, apparently, the man, a 29-year-old Tel Aviv resident, entered the apartment during the night hours and fell asleep on the sofa. The officers arrested him on the spot for further investigation.
The unusual arrest was part of a broad operation carried out over the weekend by police officers from the Tel Aviv North, Glilot, and Lev Tel Aviv stations in the Yarkon District against property criminals. As part of the operation, which was carried out both covertly and overtly, seven suspects were arrested in several different incidents of break-ins and thefts, including three residents of the territories. During the arrests, property that was allegedly stolen was also seized.
In another incident that occurred yesterday, August 29, officers arrested two residents of Jaffa in their 20s, after they were caught dragging a motorcycle that was allegedly stolen shortly before from Nahalat Binyamin Street in Tel Aviv. Burglary tools were also found in their possession. They were brought to the Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court, where their detention was extended.
Tonight, police officers from the Tel Aviv North station arrested a 35-year-old resident of Ma'ale Adumim, after he was caught driving on King George Street in Tel Aviv in a vehicle that was allegedly stolen earlier from Amos Street in the city. According to the suspicion, he broke into an apartment, stole the car keys from it, and then used it.
In another operation by the Glilot station on Friday, August 28, a resident of the territories who was in Israel without stay permits was arrested in Modiin. A luxury scooter was found in his possession, which was allegedly stolen earlier from Golomb Street in Herzliya. His detention was also extended in court.
This arrest was joined by two additional cases in which residents of the territories were caught in the Yarkon District in possession of micromobility tools. A check of the tools revealed that they were also allegedly stolen.
The suspects who have not yet been brought before a judge are expected to appear at hearings on requests to extend their detention, depending on the progress of the investigation and the findings collected regarding them.
